LOCAL PRODUCTION
We believe that how clothing is made matters just as much as how it looks. That’s why our collections are designed and produced locally in Toronto, working closely with skilled makers who share our commitment to quality and responsibility.
By producing in small batches, we’re able to reduce excess inventory, minimize waste, and focus on craftsmanship rather than mass production. This approach allows us to be thoughtful with materials, maintain higher standards of construction, and respond intentionally to demand—creating pieces that are meant to be worn, loved, and kept.
Local production also means greater transparency and accountability at every stage of the process. Keeping our manufacturing close to home allows us to support the local fashion ecosystem, reduce the environmental impact associated with long-distance shipping, and ensure ethical working conditions throughout production. This also allows us to keep our larger off-cuts to rework into future designs, and our smaller fabric scraps are donated to the Markham Textile Recycling Program.
ISLA MER is built on the idea of slower fashion—timeless design, responsible production, and a respect for the people and processes behind every garment.
